Professional History
I have been a practicing Book & Archive Conservator since graduating from Camberwell College of Arts, London in 1995 (now University of the Arts). I studied for BA(Hons) Paper Conservation, a broad training in the conservation of paper based items, specialising in Book & Archive Conservation.
Returning to education in 1997 I completed a Postgraduate Diploma in the ‘Conservation of Rare Books & Manuscripts’ at West Dean College, Nr. Chichester, West Sussex; under the tutelage of Christopher Clarkson. Christopher Clarkson was a pre-eminent conservator who transformed the understanding, handling and preservation of rare books and manuscripts by adapting traditional approaches to the repair of medieval manuscripts and early printed books and worked to raise awareness of their importance as historical artefacts. As a freelance conservator I worked at The Leather Conservation Centre, Northampton, and have been employed as a conservator for The University of York, Middle Temple Law Court Library and West Sussex Record Office.
I currently am the Subject Tutor on the Graduate and MA Book & Library conservation courses at West Dean College as well as working as a freelance conservator.
I am an Associate Member of the Institute of Conservation (ICON) and signed up to the Professional Standards and Code Of Conduct they provide.
